Edgerton United Methodist Church

Relational Covenant

This covenant is designed to assist us in relating to one another in this church, our local body of Christ, and how we treat everyone with whom we have contact in our daily lives. This is to remind us:
  • How we should treat others
  • How we as individuals should be treated
  • That as a congregation, and as individuals, we are not perfect.
This covenant is not a “book of rules” but a document designed to allow each of us, with God’s help, to have a better understanding of the behavior expected by members of Edgerton United Methodist Church.

With Jesus Christ as our example, these are ideals that we will embrace.

Leadership
Every person is a leader, if not of others, then of themselves. Everyone is expected to participate with their gifts and skills, and to become involved in the life of EUMC. Everyone is responsible for sharing his or her best effort within EUMC through the committees or chair-persons, the office secretary, or the pastor.

Communication
Information about the life of the church,  including participation opportunities in mission, committees, and in leadership roles, is made available as best possible using a variety of media. All Communications will contain information that is as complete and accurate as possible.

Decision-Making
Consensus decision-making will be the preferred method of making decisions within the body of the church. The consensus decision process will be valued and respected. Consensus decision making may not always mean 100% agreement but means we will accept and support the decision of the congregation.

Questions, Concerns and Conflict
  • Each person is encouraged to express his or her own point of view, or voice a concern, all in a constructive and timely manner.
  • Each person has the responsibility to seek answers to his or her questions.
  • Statements with the word “I” will be valued over statements with the words “You, they, some people, or them.”
  • Any questions, comments, or concerns will be supported by your name and include recommendations for possible solutions when appropriate.

We each and all agree to pray,

“May the Holy Spirit work within us and through this covenant,
that having been born of the water and the Spirit,
we may live as faithful disciples of Jesus Christ
for the transformation of the world. AMEN.”
